When I finally got up the courage to see my doctor about
my depression and anxiety, she put me on 10mg of Lexapro and gave me sample packs worth 6 weeks. I definitely saw some major improvements, and I managed to join a yoga class and do things on my own; I even went bowling with some people I just met through my boyfriend, which is something my social anxiety would have never allowed before, or at least not happily.
Then when it came time to actually fill the prescription, I picked it up only to discover that it was 20mg of Citalopram, the generic form of Celexa. Apparently my insurance does not cover or prefer Lexapro, so I am stuck with this. Or am I?
I've been on it for two months and am now on 40mg and I still feel like I am back at square one- sometimes even worse than before with frequent thoughts like "What is the point of living? It's all just a stressful delay of the inevitable". I don't feel like it's affecting me in any way. If you try the generic and it just doesn't work for you, will the insurance then agree to cover the brand name? I've also tried Zoloft and Paxil and hated them, I want nothing to do with Prozac or anything that will make me gain weight, and Lexapro is the only one so far that I actually had a positive response with.
Have any of you had any experience with this? I know with some colitis meds they won't cover them until you've tried something else first and then they agree, so I thought maybe it might be the same here.
