Substituting Ativan while Lexapro kicks in?

 Hello I have recently had a three week bout with anxiety and panic attacks..so much so that I had to quit my job. I went to my doctor who prescribed 20mg of Lexapro and to use the Ativan in the meantime until the Lex kicks in. I've been taking about 1.0 mg of Ativan in the morning when my anxiety is at its worse and .25 about to get me to sleep. I am so fearful of becoming dependent on this. Does anyone out there have any stories of using this method? The doctor said I eventually wont need the ativan. Also, I have heard that Lexapro induces the craving to drink alchohol and i have noticed that i have been drinkiing wine every night. My father is a recovering alcoholic so I dont know if I should bring this up to my doctor and if theres another med out there that would be better for me. Would appreciate any help. I'm a new member and this site is a wonderful community.

Welcome to the site. I don't have any advice to offer you on your meds but talking about everything on here really does help. I quit my full time job in June due to panic attacks and have just started on some medication, citalopram 20mg day, and hopefully will be on the road to recovery. best of luck and keep posting and talking.

I have answered your other post and I feel it wont harm you to have the ativan til the AD does its job which sometimes can take up to 4 to 6 weeks

Hi,

I addressed your other post to and agree re the Ativan. I would be concerned about the alcohol if you find you are craving it but if you are not a drinker, it seems odd that you would suddenly have a craving for a beer.

This you may have to discuss with your physician.
