Medications I take for my anxiety and how each makes me feel.

I'm a 33 yr. old guy. I have mixed symptoms. I have ADHD, anxiety and panic disorder. Although, I can pretty much cover it up when I want to in public, it kills me to do that. I've since been seeing a Psychiatrist and a therapist to help me overcome these symptoms.

What I've tried: I've tried almost all of the SSRI's and remember the effects of each of them. All produced the most horrible sexual side effects. Couldn't stand that. I tried Xanax and actually had bouts of sleep paralysis while on that. Ativan worked very well, but I stopped when I read how addictive it can be.

What I take now: I take Abilify 10mg every night. Atenolol 25mg twice a day/morning and night. Klonopin .5mg as needed and once at bedtime. I have to say that the Abilify and Atenolol are the two medications that have helped me the most. The Atenelol relaxes me physically. It slows my heartbeat and stops that racing feeling. I feel relieved when I take it. In fact, I'm thinking about asking the doctor if I can take 50mg twice a day instead of the 25mg twice a day. The Abilify is great too. It makes me feel calm and content. It's definitely fighting my anxiety. I feel much better on it as well. My doctor is considering putting me on Ritalin for my ADHD too.

Well, those are my experiences so far. I wonder if anyone takes this combo for anxiety too.

It sounds like you have a good relationship with your physician and he is covering your medication needs well.

Atenolol is a good choice for a beta blocker, better than Inderal as Atenolol will not cross the blood-brain barrier as Inderal will. Some of the beta blockers may cause depression by crossing into the brain.  So you are on a good med.  Just be sure to know all your possible side effects and contraindications which I am sure your physician has explained.

I know what your other drugs are but have no experience with them as I do the beta blockers.
