I'm sorry to hear about your hernia. My husband has a parastomal hernia which gives him problems from time to time. It pops out and can cause output to back-up. He usually can pop it back it by...
Hmm...My husband has a moderate parastomal hernia that he has to "pop" back in every fews days, otherwise he gets plugged up. He has a "roundness" like a gently sloping half-orange/grapefruit around...
bagthatruns.blogspot.com/ I guess I'm not 100% sure it's her, but I found her blog when I was researching ileostomies. When I found this site, there were some clues that made me think they're the...
Are you in MN, or just driving to MN?...
I saw on her blog site that she was taking a break from blogging, so maybe she's been staying off-line on purpose?...
Thanks for all your responses. I appreciate it. The more info, the better....
TMC--thanks for the quick response! Trying to see how often others go through blockage episodes....
Who here has blockages semi-regularly (1 per month or so)? If so, how severe (hospital or at-home fix)? How many happen to those with ileostomies vs jpouchers? Just curious......
Ugh! Keep us updated on how you're doing (although typing is probably harder too now....). You're in my thoughts. K...
Are you feeling better?...
Thank you all for the updates. It's good information to see how people are progressing (good and bad) as they recover. Thanks for taking the time to share....
Try the Gas-X meltaway strips. You put them on your tongue (2-4 strips) and they melt. Comes in mint or cinnamon. Works way better for my hubby than the chewables. A heating pad on your tummy can...
Be careful with the venlafaxine (effexor). Take it at the same time everyday; it has a really short half-life in the body, so you'll metabolize it quickly. If you miss a dose, you might feel "funny"...
My hubby, who is prone to blockages due to hernias, does well with Ramen. We always crush up the noodles and add a little extra water. Sometime, if he's feeling gross, we'll just use 1/2 the noodle...
I'm sorry to hear you're going through this. It can be very frustrating--to the point of tears--when your medical team doesn't seem to hear you. I have no advice, but am keeping you in my thoughts....
Are there any non-patients here who are related (married/parents/boy-girl friends) to an ostomate? I am looking for support and wondering how other cope with watching the ones they love go through so...
I'm glad I stumbled on this thread. I've been wondering if others get back pain from their parastomal hernias. My husband got the same answer from his surgeon. "So what. You have a hernia. We'll fix...
Isn't it sad when it's a surprise when someone stands up for you? I'm glad you have a great GI doc who is taking care of you. :)...
Are you feeling any better? My husband is having sort-of similar symptoms, but he has a temp end ileo, not loop. How are you doing?...
Hmmm...His portion control hasn't been the greatest lately, so maybe that contributed. The unsettling thing was that his pain was in a totally different spot than it normally is. I'm just afraid that...
He's feeling better than yesterday, but still has a gurgly, tender tummy. I wonder if he had a partial blockage? Sigh. It's in a different spot than he normally has trouble with, so I'm scared we're...
My husband had UC and has a total colectomy with temp end ileo for about 3 yrs. He has a moderate parastomal hernia that gives him blockage issues from time to time, but he's usually able to 'pop' it...
My husband is thinking spring for step 2 and takedown in the summer. He doesn't want to be trapped in the house recovering during the cold winter months like he was with the colectomy....
x5800: When is your takedown scheduled?...
Great questions and responses. I printed off the thread to show my husband who is facing Jpouch surgery in the future....
Hubby's temp ileo was at Mercy in Coon Rapids. He's likely doing a j-pouch this spring (step #2) and that'll be at Mercy as well, I would imagine. Do you like McCabe? Hubby's MNGI experience was...
Thanks for the feedback x5800. My husband and I like Spencer, he's just a little different. He did spend an hour talking to us in his office when his waiting room was full, and most of the time (with...
Thanks for sharing. Does anyone else have any experience with this? Was anyone able to contest the denial successfully?...
My husband has similar issues and it's because of a parastomal hernia causing partial blockages. When he feels pressure, he lies on his back and brings his leg up to his chest (on the stoma side),...
Has anyone been denied life insurance because of small bowel obstructions? My husband was recently denied because of "frequent small bowel obstructions." He's been hospitalized twice in the last 90...
That's encouraging news and great to hear. Glad you're doing well....
Argh! Sorry you and your hubby are having a setback. Like you said, it's better to wait to make sure the pouch is in top condition before the takedown. Frustrating nonetheless. Take care....
I'm glad you're starting to feel better. Here's hoping you'll be home and on the way to recovery soon!...
Bootstrap-- So sorry to hear about your set back. Hang in there and thank you so much for keeping us posted on all the ups and downs. I'm sure it's tough for you, but it helps those who are going...
That's great! Hopefully everything continues to go well. Keep us posted. K....
Good luck with your surgery! Gas-X strips work WAY better for my hubby too. He likes the cinnamon ones but they're harder to find than the minty ones....
Rosemary--I am new to posting on the site, but have been lurking awhile and have followed your story. There isn't much I can offer for advice, so I won't try, but know that you are in my heart and...
UC Warrior-- My husband had UC go through him in about 18 months and then he had surgery. He went through the usual meds (pills would just come out whole), ending with one or two remicade infusions...
Hi mom2panda-- My husband is going down this same road; I may not be able to ease your anxiety, I will only be able to tell you that you're not alone. He is having hernia + hernia-related obstruction...
Thank you so much for the info. His temp ileo was done by Dr. Spencer (colorectal surgery assoc), but his visit with him last week left us feeling a bit frustrated. He spent a lot of time with us,...
Hi all. I'm new here and speaking on behalf of my husband who has a temp ileo due to UC. I'm looking at different colorectal surgeons in the Twin Cities area. Is there anyone here that is from MN...
