Early in this decade, we were in what became known as the "Golden age of prostate cancer treatment" because of the rapid succession of life-extending drug discovery/approvals for advanced cases . The...
There's shifting going on in RT...shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic?!?! SBRT, for example, is just a subset of the larger set of EBRT options; it can just be applied in fewer cycles, which is...
Here's the points that I think are interesting from this data and the chart I just posted... *Brachytherapy as mono-therapy has just about disappeared (although it was never very popular, despite A...
I'll ask you to forgive me for confusing you, and I will attempt to clarify here. Paraphrasing a quote attributed, I believe, to Benjamin Franklin: If I had more time, I would have written a shorter...
Well, they'd certainly benefit from pushing you through a biopsy then possible treatment...I'm not so sure you would. In fact, pretty sure you wouldn't. Why the heck did you even have a PSA test?...
It's all relative. With the right perspective, it goes on infinitely................ [white]...
You are definitely welcome! I've got a great quote for you from one of the U.S.'s leading PC clinicians, who also happens to be the PC doctor to a number of men here at this site (not me). Dr Ian...
A single core of 3+4. Nominal PSA. No mention of DRE. I'd definitely agree with Froggy's comment, too....
I love Nimoy's Spock character. (I never really got into the movies.) So...logical, yet a human side, every now and then with some wry humor which not everyone gets (and that's fine!). [white]...
Easy to look up...entered "penis size" into search bar....
You missed the point, but I'll pretend like I fall for it (in a similar miss) anyhow... *low-risk PC: IDLE tumor *high-risk PC: prostate cancer ...
On average, this topic comes up here every 295 days, or nearly every 10 months: days since last … date … thread name … 2/1/2007 … Ahem, (shyly clears throat) mmm, What about penile shrinkage with...
Your doctor's guidance sounds solid and fact-based. Continued best wishes going forward! You did ask this question in in your opening post which probably still warrants reply: Basically, this IS a...
You and Purgatory. Two peas in a pod. You need to start giving it some advanced thought and "dedicating" your milestone posts to various members, like he does/did. Sumthin' like, "I dedicate my...
Fair enough. I thought the statement ("Surgery is declining...") was very clearly formulated. It was wrong, but clearly formulated...and would be to everyone's benefit to clarify/correct. BTW, there...
Uh, no. That's a laughable misinterpretation. You seem to have not actually read/understand what TA wrote, didn't read the link he provided, and/or perhaps more importantly didn't read what I wrote....
But, PDA, did you know that the very first calorimeter was an "ice calorimeter," a la CAdogsRus 's suggestion, to measure caloric content. The method relied on the heat required to melt ice to...
Wow! LINK One serving contains the full daily requirement of protien, total fat, and more than the full day's upper limit of recommended saturated fats (the "bad" fat)...plus, nearly the daily limit...
I made this comment earlier in this thread, about 8 months ago, regarding the topics of your comments above: Besides the psychological issue, note that testosterone level (associated with libido) is...
University of Michigan, in 2010, published this handy chart How Aggressive Is That (PC) Tumor showing that most variants of PC were not aggressive. They had identified 24 variants. Elsewhere, lots...
Well-known Serotonin Theory: the theory posits that diminished serotonin play a role in the pathophysiology of depression . So when you eat sugary (and carb-rich foods), that may be a way of...

There is no meaningful timetable for this for individuals. First and foremost, understand that it is impossible to know when metastasis starts. It is not even detectable until it has doubled many,...
Breathlessness is a complex and subjective symptom that is commonly experienced by people who are nearing the end of life. Small amounts of morphine can help reduce the feeling of breathlessness by...
It's going to be disgustingly sad if we start seeing the families of patients who are already too sick to be eligible for clinical trials start reaching for straws by "demanding" drugs with...
Really sorry to hear about the poor level of care you have received. I guess this doesn’t happen with everyone, but since age 40 I’ve been getting annual—every year, despite anything else that’s...
Pratoman, use the thumbs down icon upper right corner. I agree. Every time I see one of clocknut’s ad hominem attacks I also think of using the block feature. edited later - I see someone else also...
Not quite sure if I got your main point, Larry, but there is also PC under-treatment…completely different from over-treatment. I think that the high-risk/aggressive cases need “the kitchen sink”...
You don’t get to make up your own definition of overtreatment. It’s a medical term. From an epidemiological standpoint, overtreatment signifies the potential lack of benefit as well as unnecessary...
What you told us was that: "Today the doctors told us that he Will not get anymore cancer treatment. From now on the palliative team will take care of him." What it possibly sounds like you may or...
Both can be true of prostate cancer...especially when compared to many other other cancers. I know that you are hungry for something concrete, some statistics, or something. It's just unknowable;...
All I can say, again, is that I'm sorry. It is correct that PSA has a "connection to the development of the disease," although it is meaningless to compare absolute values of PSA for various...
No politics here....

I'm sorry...you are getting some really bad information. PSA is not a reliable indicator of the processes which bring about body shut-down. In fact, PSA is pretty much a useless measurement at this...
mattamx, you might have accidently jumped into the wrong thread...this one is about the shifting distribution of treatments/non-treatments...not "screening" BTW mattamx, I agree with your notion of...

I've reviewed this thread. We are not guilty of that. Don't believe I've seen that elsewhere, either. Read the article. This problem you describe is better understood today, and doctors are now...
You make yourself the center of all your posts. This post is not about you. [b]* This post is about others. This post is about those who have NOT yet made a decision…or not yet been [i]eased into a...
Yes. The article (and discussion) is about favorable-risk PC cases, which is roughly half of all new diagnosed cases....
Age is not part of the fact-based AS/treatment decision equation for favorable-risk men...although for those who need treatment, it may play a role in the type of aggressive treatment one chooses....
I didn't see your original response...but yes, only about 1/2 of the 3+4 cases would fall into the "well-selected" candidates pool for AS...but 50% of all 3+4 diagnosed cases is a darned big...
Ay Yai Yai!!! Doctors should never, never treat for PC "based solely on PSA alone" . Never, ever. (But then again, I've never, ever heard of this happening.) [white]...
Health & Science article last week in Washington Post: LINK Article passage regarding low-risk PC: "A study published in JAMA last week found that 72 percent of men younger than 65 with prostate...
I'm going to respectfully offer some constructive disagreement. There's a ton of info out there on how GOOD sex is for you, especially as you age (the core of these bullets from Psychology Today):...
I've never heard of anyone sending surgical specimen to Epstein for analysis. I can't imagine why anyone would want to do that. Post-treatment, there's really nothing that one would do different with...
I had to pick-and-choose what to comment on here...I choose this one: You obviously don't have a clue what "overtreatment" is. This is a dis-service to men. I'm not even going to bother. Look it up....
Aggressive treatments are on the decline. Why, you ask? It's simple math. Aggressive PC treatment has been dominated by favorable-risk cases simply because favorable-risk cases have dominated PC...
