Oh I'm just laughing at the "10 day course" of prednisone. I usually start at 60mg for a week or so, then taper as follows: 50mg for 1 week 40mg " " 30mg " " 25mg " " 20mg " " 15mg " " 10mg " " 5mg "...
Well I am the queen of prednisone (self crowned) so I am glad to read your posting so I can be alert of that possible connection. Thanks!...
Keep your fingers crossed because that ain't the cure....
Can somebody give specifics on the 'fiber supplement' program? Just drink the citrucel stuff? Before bed? Thanks!...
Ju330--my experience with remicade infusions themselves was similar to Peety--I used to think of it as my 3-hour "Me Time" ! Unfortunately remicade didn't work at all for me and we quit after 3...
Prednisone is a miracle drug for me and has never made me worse. I have noticed that the more frequently I am on it, the higher dose I require to feel better. You having a steady 20mg dose for...
I found it comforting that it is estimated 30% of all pregnancies end with miscarriage. You're not alone! I have had two very healthy babies on basically the same drugs you are on. I was not so...
I found this article about the raw milk debate interesting. http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2010-04-15-rawmilk15_ST_N.htm...
I think Remicade is supposed to take a few doses to show whether it is really going to work or not. The blood clearing up could also be a result of the prednisone working, so you may not know if...
I would think he should be feeling better within a few days. That is how pred works for me--although it takes longer than it used to (when I was younger I'd feel better just hours after my first...
I guess this is kind of a hijack, sorry about that! But I am wondering about having the surgery 2 hours away. I too am thinking about that (Mayo Clinic is just 1.5 hrs) but wasn't sure if that was a...
I'm so sorry! Please take care of yourself and know that it is not your fault. These things just happen. My mom told me, when I had my miscarriage, that he/she just needed to go back and try again. I...
Prednisone is safe for pregnancy and is a much better option than being so sick. I understand you "hate needing drugs" but please be considerate that that is all that is keeping most of us on this...
At my clinic we get "twilight" sedation, through an IV. It is the best part of the whole procedure and I look forward to it very much!! ;)...
I would at least try the Remicade/Humira route before jumping to surgery. That is a miracle drug for some and I would just think about pregnancy after you're more healthy. Having kids (a newborn!)...
How funny, I just did a similar thing a couple weeks ago! Maybe UC drugs make us more apt to fall on our faces. It did take about a week of neosporin and bandages before I felt like it was looking...
This thread is so inspiring and is the reason that I visit this forum. We are all struggling or have struggled with the same things. I am just so thankful for all you guys....
Can you up the prednisone?...
I am in a similar situation and like you am feeling very down. If surgery is anywhere in the near future for me I would like to get it over with while my kids still have a childhood for me to...
It is always nice to hear your voice on this forum. Stay healthy and pop in whenever you can!...
For me bleeding is one of the first signs of a flare, so I would think your bleeding would mean that the pred is not totally doing the job. I'd call your doctor though because you never want to mess...
Best of luck to you Christine--I'll be looking forward to reading about your healthy recovery and new life!!...
I feel as though I have never recovered from my two pregnancies. My UC has been a constant struggle and I definitely see surgery in my near future. Raising two tiny kids while having severe UC is...
Definitely look into your dose.. I am 110 lbs and take 175 mg and I know dose is determined by weight. You might be needing more in the long-term. best of luck...
I flared during both my pregnancies and had a hard time getting out of it after birth, so I say nip this flare in the bud. Take the prednisone and do the rectal meds and everything else they throw at...
During some flares my doctor will recommend a "low residue" diet, which means nothing with seeds, skins, strings, or membranes. I remember oranges are on that list. Maybe it is the membrane that is...
I tried three doses of remicade this past summer and it didn't work for me. I think this is fairly common, like 25% of the people or something. My doctor decided we'd try one last round of prednisone...
I have had random hair loss through out my various flares. I am not sure which drug is causing it and in fact, for me, it actually may be more about health or hormones or something. I usually ask...
Oh my gosh, isn't that just how it is. That just made me laugh....
Yes when I was on SCD I used Almond Dream too. I used to get the chocolate one for a treat, but I wonder if that was legal. SCD didn't end up working for me but I hope it works for you. Good luck!...
Wow this is so wonderful that you are doing well after your surgery! I am very happy for you and what will be your new life!!! :) :)...
When I'm flaring I need a lot of extra sleep just to function. Be sure to cut yourself some slack on the exercising and the weight gain. I know it is hard so hang in there! Also, if you are...
My doctor just took me off remicade after 3 infusions with no change for the better. We went back to prednisone and I'm not sure where I'll go after that. I was so depressed that remicade didn't work...
I am currently experiencing pred appetite too! And packing on the pounds to boot. I know in my head that the weight is fine and I'd rather be healthy than skinny, but still hard to have the pants not...
I think pasta can be gentle on your digestion in moderation while flaring. good luck....
I was just put on a course of pred starting at 80 mg, but that was a last-ditch surgery avoidance route. It has worked like a charm. I am so thankful for Prednisone. Now to get off of it successfully!...
LOL! I am feeling the same way! But I am so thankful to be out of the bathroom, that I don't care if I do look like a big moonface bobble-head doll! Hang in there Susiebuddy! :)...
I disagree on this, the split works much better for me at doses above 40 mg. If you are just taking one dose per day though, it should be at 7 am. (as far from bedtime as possible!)...
I always remind myself there are worse drugs than pred. And I agree with the others around here that it seems weird that you aren't overlapping the pred with starting a new drug. Maybe, just to be...
I agree with the others here--start from remission if at all possible! I was pregnant three times (one miscarriage) while on Imuran. It went ok but I feel very fortunate, since we knew we were taking...
Great thread. I was thinking surgery was my last option just a few weeks ago, but my GI was very hesitant and put me back on prednisone instead. He said, "once it's out, you can't put it back in,"...
What are you using for birth control? I am on the pill so never notice any variation with all the other drugs....
It has been my experience that all flares start out mild but then ramp up quickly. If you are feeling like this is the beginning of a flare I would nip it in the bud while you still can. If I wait...
What a lovely way to say that Jen. I concur--you're ready when YOU'RE ready, not when your GI has 'given up' on you. I would just be sure to get another opinion from an experienced GI. Good luck Pam...
I've been so lucky to have my friends stick with me and show genuine interest and offer support while I am sick. I knew I had nice friends, but wow, they can really shine if you let them. Me having...
Often I'll walk around the bathroom for a while to see if there is anymore to come before I leave! Too many times I am racing back because I got cocky and left before I was apparently done....
Oh my goodness! I think I am lucky I have girls!...
I totally did this with my daughter when she was a baby--her first diarrhea illness and I had her into the Ped so fast! The doctor wasn't my normal doc and she was like, "Are you crazy? Oh! You have...
Very interesting! Thanks for cutting/pasting....
Your pharmacist needs to stop sampling her own drugs!! Prednisone is the queen of side effects and 40 mg is no joke dose....
