I started flaring right around Thursday or Friday of last week. By Tuesday, my symptoms were very severe (15+ BMs a day w/ blood, LOTS of pain). Now here's the weird part: Starting Wednesday morning...
It's been awhile since I've been around these parts and you all know what it means that I'm back. Started having some pain over the weekend, stronger than usual. Mucus appeared immediately after. Not...
I guess we should all move to Florida ;p Correlation does not always equal causation....
I agree as stated above, good for monitoring cancer risks but I would steer away from continuous colonoscopies for disease monitoring. Even with insurance, these things can get expensive....
Were you taking your meds faithfully...and the Canasa at least for maintenance, even twice a week? I tapered them down til I got to a point where I was not taking them at all. I agree I should...
In following of the routine that's all too common around here, now that my UC is starting to act up I'm back! Nothing too serious for now. Some consistent pain and have had blood once. Getting a...
I had a strong correlation last year with my flare and getting sick. It makes sense on a basic level of the immune system being "activated" by the virus. Pred taper seems predictable in this case....
That's a big move. Welcome to 3 hours into the future ;p Congrats!...
McGut said... Like the days you went for a BM and actually had to push a little. ^LOL!!!!!!!...
It used to work automatically on quick reply. Now it doesn't. EDIT: it worked on this one, which was a quick reply.....lol EDIT #2: after editing, it's gone....
That is an AWESOME story. Hope the date went well!...
Has anyone tried the pills for lactose intolerance?...
Welcome! ;D...
Thanks! bacon, I love that you mention Herschel Walker....I'm UGA alum ;D...
I'm curious if anyone here has taken glutamine supplement(s)? I've just begun a new workout routine with a personal trainer and he recommended taking glutamine to help build muscle. My only concern...
So I took the first one at lunch today and my heartburn was gone within a few hours. It's a 14 day program though and it says not to take it for more than 14 days. So what happens after that? Does...
I've been having major heartburn issues lately. Like almost every day and lasting all day. I've decided I need to start taking something because Tums/Mylanta as remedies is just not cutting it...
I usually do 1 cup of regular a day with no problems....
I think you may be jumping the gun in accusing the Canasa of causing the D. I've never had any trouble with these meds. I would take the suppository again and see if you have the same reaction....
Laying on my side helps relieve pain for me. Prednisone definitely won't help you with trying to sleep. :/...
Stress definitely plays a role with mine....
The Nestle product is called Modulen. It's hard to find and also expensive. It is specifically designed for IBD though....
I don't think Canasa directly causes weight gain (not even sure how that's possible). Most people lose weight when flaring so it makes sense that if you begin recovery, you would gain weight....
From the patterns I've experienced, mucus tends to preceed blood. Almost as if when the inflammation starts mucus is produced and if the inflammation worsens, I begin to see blood. I almost consider...
I just had one a few months ago. I got three bills for $250, $675, $325 so I ended up paying $1250 out of pocket....
runcycle said... Hi juju. When I was using Canasa suppositories, I was also seeing this substance. I'm not sure what causes it ... maybe it's a mixture of the waxy material used to form the...
Wow, I take mine differently than everyone else here. I started off trying the laying on the side thing (because that's how you do colonoscopies and rectal exams). I had a lot of trouble with that...
Let me start off by saying that I too work out regularly and take whey protein regularly so I can relate to this. I think you need to decide how important 100% SCD compliance is to you. The whole...
Didn't notice a difference when I took fish oil. The consensus among GIs (as I understand) is that it won't hurt you, but it probably won't be much help either....
For the past few days, I've noticed a small amount of an orange/yellow liquid in the toilet accompanying my BMs. There's not a lot, but I've never seen it before. Could this be a side effect of...
I've become a big fan of exercise over the past year. I work out twice a week and also play softball twice a week. Other than, I've been playing guitar for several years. Got a gig playing at my best...
notsosicklygirl said... You shouldn't go from 40mg of prednisone to 0 overnight. I've heard that can cause serious problems. I agree. I drew up a red flag when you said that you were cutting it cold...
I feel your pain. I was dealing with a flare for several months and then symptoms started to improve. I got to the point where everything was normal...no pain, no blood, no mucus, formed stools, etc....
I'm gonna go buy some macaroons... (not really)...
bowiestar, Do a search for "my alcohol experiment" I did a short case study on monitoring how alcohol affected my UC. I definitely think it can make a flare worse. I don't know if it would CAUSE a...
As I'm typing this, what feels like my colon (right-side) is pulsing uncontrollably. It's almost like a muscle spasm. It doesn't hurt at all but it keeps pulsing and I can't control it. It's not at a...
In remission I eat whatever I want. Some spicy foods give me stomach trouble, but that's about it. I don't believe in diet-induced flares, but I do think our digestive systems have their own problem...
I had a little bit of this too. I've been off the suppositories for a week and it seems to be going away....
I was able to go back fairly quickly, but it's good to take precaution. I started off by re-introducing things like red meats and cooked veggies in small portions in one meal a day. Still stayed...
Everyone bashes pred for the side effects (and they DO suck) but it is the most effective drug I've ever taken for UC....
Usually goes in this order for me: Gas, Pain, Mucus, Blood...
Glad to see you're doing well so far with the recovery. I can't offer any advice as I haven't had the surgery but I expect you'll get some good replies to this one from the others on this board. Good...
If there's one thing I've learned about UC after having it for 10 years it's that everyone is different. We all have found success (and failure) with different treatments including...
Congrats on the progress. Keep it up ;)...
I missed my Asacol one weekend when I went out of town and forgot to take it. Within the next few days, the symptoms decreased. So I stayed off of it and I kept improving. So yeah, cold turkey. Most...
So other than making a few small comments on others' threads, I haven't really posted much lately. I'm sure most of you can probably guess why given the trends of this board. For the past week, I...
Welcome back! Sounds like you're doing good. Sorry to hear about the complications. Keep us posted on your post-surgery results ;]...
Gatorade has never had an effect on my UC, good or bad....
Bananas have always helped me...
Diet and exercise does work if you do it right. Keep in mind it's not a quick fix and takes time. P90X did wonders for me....
