yikes, didn't see the bit about the enemas being steroid based. i misread your post and thought that you were referring to mesalamine enemas, which people do use indefinitely. as for steroid enemas,...
i'd suggest sticking with the enemas and using them maybe twice a week even if you are in remission. if you do well on metamucil then i'd suggest taking it with every meal, because enemas work best...
I stopped the iron supplements and the bleeding seems to have stopped. Don't know if that's just a coincidence, but so far so good....
I started taking Feramax iron supplements around the same time I started clipper, but I've temporarily stopped the iron supplements because they were causing annoying constipation. Is it ok to take...
I started Clipper because I had a stubborn bit of blood that wasn't going away even with 5-ASA enemas. I've now been on Clipper for just a little over 3 weeks and have another 3 weeks to go, however...
Quick update. After 8 weeks of Cortiment 9mg (Uceris), my bleeding and loose stools have fully resolved and everything is back to normal. I hope it stays like this. I don't want this to be a...
Thanks, I'll give that a read. Is it possible for us to build up resistance to 6MP as well? I noticed quite a few people on here who are taking 6MP but have also had to use Prednisone. Lastly, does...
Yes, Metamucil worked wonders for me when this flare first began. No blood, mucus, or loose BMs. However I stopped taking it right after I felt relief and continued eating spicy foods, which then...
So if Uceris/Clipper gets rid of the inflammation, I can continue the 5-ASA?...
Thanks for the response. I got the report from the doctor today, and it says the rectum and sigmoid are fine, most likely due to the 5-ASA enemas. It's the splenic flexture that's inflamed. I was...
Hi guys. I registered years ago and have been inactive as I was in remission, but as they say, all good things come to an end and I've been in a flare for the past 2-3 months. Here's where I'm at......
Does anyone here know whether Standard Life's drug benefits covers 5-ASA's (Salofalk specifically)? Other plans like Sun Life say that their plans cover everything on Canada's national formulary...
usually i'm only active on these forums when i'm in a flare, but hopefully someone will still remember me if only vaguely. :) so i'm almost 24, which means it's been four years since i was first...
Sad news. I don't understand though, how can someone die from IBD? What happened in Jennifer's case?...
Hope it works out for you. Someone on this forum actually did drink a proper poo shake made from diluted poo, by the way. It's the only thread I remember from last year....
Sibby, the OSAP program is government run and is completely separate from school. How you decide to fill in your loan application isn't impact your schedule or anything else. Also, interest on OSAP...
Yeah, I made the mistake of stopping the enemas right after the bleeding stopped. I got some more yesterday and will be using them nightly for a month. There's still bleeding, but the diarrhea...
For those of you who don't know, OSAP is a government issued student loan program in Ontario Canada. Anyone with crohns or colitis should be able to get disability. Apply for it and see what happens....
Anyone? :( Can left-sided UC cause diarrhea during flares or does that mean it's spreading beyond the sigmoid?...
When I saw the blood, I got on nightly enemas for two weeks until the bleeding stopped. After that, I was doing them every third night when suddenly I started getting diarrhea. Anyway, I just saw...
My UC is left sided and doesn't go past the sigmoid. Usually when I have a flare, I get constipation along with false urges to go. If I'm flaring right now, then this is the first time I've gotten D...
Could be a stomach bug, but I'm not sure. I'm not taking any probiotics at the moment....
Oral + rectal 5-ASA, but the rectals don't seem to be helping much with the D. I did have some slight bleeding two weeks ago, but I got on rectals straight away and managed to stop the bleeding. But...
I've had left-sided colitis for three years now, and whenever I've got a flare there's always constipation, bleeding and mucus. But something odd has been going on for the past few days. I don't know...
Don't worry about it. I used to get lots of those white buttsnakes, but the enemas were still very effective in controlling my flare....

I remember having sushi a few times during a flare, and the resulting BMs were never bloody....
I remember reading some research papers that might be relevant to this. It was shown that patients with UC always had a higher TIMP-1:MMP-1 ratio in their blood plasma compared to patients without...
When I'm in remission, I feel as if I don't even have UC at all. No blood, mucous or dietary restrictions. The last time I saw a streak of blood, it turned into a full blown flare that lasted for 2-3...
Your stylist sounds like a proper b****. I would have given her a piece of my mind. I bet she watches shows like Oprah and just loves to judge other people....
Am I the only one who didn't experience any discomfort at all with the enemas? To be honest, the worst part was just inserting the tip and then pulling it back out again....
Does anyone know how 5-ASAs can affect our skin in the long term? I've been taking these meds for over two years now and haven't noticed anything bad, but I'm still wondering....
Thanks for the replies, but what I meant to ask was whether it's safe to take both 5-ASAs and iron capsules together in the same dose. I just don't want them to mix up and form something dangerous....
I've been taking Feramax 150 (iron supplements) together with my 5-ASAs since it's easier for my to take it all in one dose instead of splitting it up. I haven't noticed any bad side effects, but I'm...
This flare started right after a cold I picked up in November, and now it's starting to settle down again after I got hit by another cold a few weeks ago. This cold by the way was NASTY... probably...
I'd still like to see the actual study though. I know someone who's been taking mesalamines for over 30 years now, and he hasn't had any issues with low testosterone. I guess it must not affect...
You mean mesalamines in general or just Asacol? Also, any sources for this bit of info?...
Well, I can't get it over the phone. He says that if it's a dosage increase I want, I'll have to come in and see him. He can however give me a script for pred over the phone (no thanks). The mornings...
Hah, my GI would probably choke me to death if I mentioned LDN to him. He's one of those "LONG LIVE PREDNISONE and get out of my office asap" doctors....
C diff and UC aren't mutually exclusive, and it does become a little harder to treat if the person has UC. Has your husband ever had a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy done?...
So what you're saying is that mesalamine causes hemorrhoids? If you've got hemorrhoids to begin with, then inserting anything into the anal canal is obviously going to irritate them further. Doesn't...
He might not have the right to force me onto pred, but he does have the right to refuse me a prescription for the 4g enemas. He didn't tell me why I was prescribed 2g and not 4g. Then again, he never...
So I've been on 2g 5-ASA nightly enemas for just over 3.5 weeks now, and there's still a small amount of blood present. There's no denying that the enemas are helping, since my symptoms are a lot...
Agreed with everyone else. Don't let the UC get in the way of what you want to do. The most you'll have to do is make some adjustments to your working day (e.g. light breakfast, skipping lunch,...
How about mixing in some psyllium seeds into the water before letting it rip? It would turn into a jelly like blob and form a layer on top of the water. No more worrying about recoil!...
Probably not for a while, notsosicklygirl. Also, this is from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasitic_worm I wonder if worms do the same thing as steroids, but with less side effects?...
Gotta love threads like this. So glad to see you're having fun. :)...
I started sweating a bit after reading this thread....
Are you sure that I'm not going to get any side effects by going on 4g oral and 4g rectal of mesalamine? That seems like overdosage to me. Also are the bottles bigger for the 4g enemas? I'm using the...
I'm not sure. I heard that they cover the 4g enemas, but not the 2g ones which I'm on right now. My doctor gave me a prescription for the 2g ones only, and I'm not sure why. Maybe because I'm already...
