I cam maintain remission on Imuran alone. If anything, Mesalamine exacerbates my flare symptoms so I avoid it (with my GI's consent). Hope you feel better soon....
Have to say, my current flare began exactly as you have described, even down to the awful gas. Hope it gets better for you....
I'm also one of the lucky ones who tolerates this drug very well. I plan on being on Imuran for as long as possible. Once it stops working, hopefully there will be other drugs or perhaps even a cure!...
I take them all with food first thing in the morning. You may feel nauseous if you don't take them with food....
I also flared for the first time after I quit smoking. My GI told me about the link and I didn't believe him at first. I'm flaring at the moment and am very tempted (as I always am) to take up...
I had perfect teeth and no fillings until I was diagnosed with UC. The pred stripped my teeth of calcium and now I have three fillings and two root canals. So for me, UC caused my fillings rather...
This is what I've just made for supper (mid flare): Minty Pea Soup 500gms frozen minted peas 1 small potato, peeled and diced 1 liter chicken stock (could also use clear broth or consommé) Place...
My GI also tends to rely on my bloodwork results to indicate whether I'm in remission (as well as the absence of symptoms and how well I'm feeling, of course). Have you had your blood tested? What...
I have no problems eating veggies when I'm in remission. Broccoli is one of my favorites; I imagine it's like a little green broom sweeping out my colon. When I'm flaring i can't tolerate veggies...
My mum has Crohn's. Hers was very mild for a number of years and she wasn't on medication at all. Then things went pear-shaped and she flared badly and had to have a re-section. She was on pred after...
Might seem a silly question, but I always seem to flare when autumn (fall) changes to winter. Our weather's really turned these past few weeks and yup... I'm flaring. Though not totally sure it's...
Thanks guys. Tough disease, huh? I went to see my GI yesterday. Still flaring. Elevated ESR and CRP plus all the usual symptoms. That said, I do feel better and last night was pretty good (compared...
I've been flaring for about four weeks but it really only got bad last week. I've been off work since last Wednesday due to combination of factors: - going back and forth to the bathroom all day -...
I have been hospitalised three times with this cursed disease. The first was in 2001 when I was diagnosed (finally). I had severe pancolitis and only just avoided surgery. I was there for 12 days but...
Vogue prolly thinks CD is trendy because of the chance of rapid weight loss....
I have learned to never trust a fart. The only time I believe the risk of farting cleanly is lower is when I've been in remission with fully formed BMs for a couple months....
I would be too frightened I might mess the bed if I took sleeping pills whilst flaring. Which I am at the moment. So I just put up with pred-induced insomnia and my nightly ups and down to the loo....
Holy smokes, that's a high CRP! I'm sorry - all I can offer is my best wishes. Surgery is my greatest fear too but it's one I'd face if there really was no other way forward. I have twice had...
There's some helpful info at this link: http://www.gihealth.com/html/education/drugs/imuran.html...
I would go to the ER immediately. Poor little mite. I do hope she finds some relief. All the best....
I take 150mg per day too (female, 130lb). I take mine in the morning with a protein shake. Currently on pred for a recent flare, so 30mg of that too. I have been on Imuran on and off since 2002. I am...
Season21, for me the initial nausea subsided after a week or two. Now I only get it if I don't take my Imuran with food. My dose is 150mg per day. Therapeutic dose is 1mg per 2kgs of body weight (I...
Right now, at 4:00am (up for the fifth time tonight), absolutely nothing. I wouldn't wish this disease on my worst enemy. That said, and in keeping with the spirit of the thread, UC has taught me not...
I have taken both pred and Imuran in the past ( indeed am doing so now for my current flare) but have not contracted pneumonia. Poor you. This disease is no fun. Pull up a bit of couch next to me and...
I may not flare immediately if I stop taking the drug BUT I don't flare at all when I am. Well, apart from this latest glitch, which was my fault for guzzling 4 NSAIDs per day for two weeks straight....
I'm flaring at the moment so feel your pain. For the past few nights I've woken every three hours on the dot to use the bathroom. So, go at 9:00pm before bed, then up again at midnight, three and six...
Imuran is the only thing keeping me in remission. I was first prescribed it in 2001 following severe pancolitis that almost ended in surgery. Following IV pred, Imuran was introduced and I began the...
Tommy, sorry to hear you're having a rough time. Just wanted to pop in and say that oral Mesasal (as Asacol is known here) makes my symptoms worse too. So you're not alone. I don't know about rectal...
Well, still flopping around like a fish on a jetty! I wasn't admitted last night because no beds but I'm actually feeling better this morning ( and had a relatively good night) so now I'm thinking...
Thanks everyone. I'm blessed with a fantastic GI and his nurse and the hospital I'll be admitted to is very good. I was last there for 11 days in 2010 but thankfully I'm not as bad now (yet...) as I...
Hi everyone. Hoping for your opinion on the choices available to me right now. I can either be admitted to hospital for IV pred OR I can commence taking 40mg of pred per day at home, tapering after a...
